Dial 988 then Press 1

https://www.veteranscrisisline.net/find-resources/spread-the-word/

The Veterans Crisis Line's new number 988 then Press 1—helps make it easier to remember and share the number to access help in times of need.

Signed into law in 2020, the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act authorized 988 as the new three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. As part of the law, all telephone service providers in the U.S. had to activate the number no later than July 16, 2022.

Veterans can use this new option by dialing 988 and pressing 1 to contact the Veterans Crisis Line. Veterans may still reach the Veterans Crisis Line with the previous phone number—1-800-273-8255 and Press 1—by text (838255), and through chat (VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat).

How Can We Help You Today?

Mission Statement

New Hampshire's Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services (DMAVS) has a dual mission: to oversee and support the Service Members of the New Hampshire National Guard (NHNG) and to provide quality services to our state’s veterans and their families. We fulfill our dual mission by:

 •    Supporting the NHNG so they can provide trained and ready forces for worldwide combat and combat support operations, providing global reach and the projection of U.S. military power in support of national objectives; and, at the command of the governor, providing trained personnel to support state and local authorities in times of natural disaster or civil strife.

 •    Providing advocacy, facilitating access and navigation to resources and assistance, and promoting the welfare of New Hampshire’s Veterans and their families, and to provide a dignified final resting place for those eligible veterans and their family members

History of DMAVS

The Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services was legislated by Senate Bill 208 which passed into law in July 2019 and became effective in September 2019.  This bill consolidated military and veterans services previously provided in other state departments into one Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services.
